The other day I was listening to Michael
Medved going on one of his rants against the "
birthers", those individuals who question Barack
Obama's
eligibility to serve as president of the United States because of the
lack of evidence that he is a natural born American citizen.
Medved
referred to them as 'pathetic losers', lumping them in with conspiracy
theorists who believe 911 was an inside job. He also took a swipe at
Joseph Farah and his outstanding news website
World Net Daily, for devoting a lot of coverage to the story.
What
Medved fails to realize is
that
to many of us in this nation, the Constitution matters. Article II of
the Constitution clearly states that "no person except a natural born
Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption
of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of the
President". To date, Barack Obama has provided no proof that he was
indeed born in this country. There is a Certification of Live Birth
posted online, but that is not a birth certificate. It is merely a
birth announcement, a document which indicates that somewhere else, a
birth certificate exists.
If Barack Obama does not meet the
constitutional requirements to fill the office of President, every
decision he makes is unconstitutional and puts our nation in a crisis
which could result in disaster.
Several lawsuits have been filed
regarding the birth certificate issue. To date, these lawsuits have
gone nowhere. And it doesn't help that pundits like
Medved dismiss the validity of these suits as frivolous, and those who show concern about our laws as losers.
Medved
is a shill for the Republican party. He constantly berates those who
don't tow the Republican line or carry their water. He doesn't
understand that many of us have had it with "republicanism", which has
in many ways become indistinguishable from liberalism. Many in the
Republican party have abandoned conservative values, signed off on
bigger government, and have thrown our Constitution under the bus.
Any talk of a third party returning our nation to the principles that our founding fathers intended gets a snicker from
Medved, who considers such discussion a waste of time.
Our
country has drifted so far away from what it stood for in the
beginning. We are on a fast track toward socialism. Each day we get
closer to the point from which there may be no return. We need real
leaders, true statesmen who want to represent the people and follow the
Constitution.
That document requires that our president be a
natural born citizen. Until Barack Obama proves beyond a shadow of a
doubt that he is legitimate, he should be considered a usurper to the
Oval Office. And Republican shills like
Medved should stop insulting those of us who want the rule of law to be honored.
